Sean didn’t let his type 1 diabetes hold him back from achieving an incredible eight-week transformation at Ultimate Performance Sydney.
He had wanted to improve his health for his family, but wasn’t seeing the results he wanted from training, which left him feeling ‘stagnant and frustrated.’
As a busy professional and family man, his time was at a premium and he wanted to maximise his time and effort in the gym.
Sean, who is an IT manager, was determined that his type 1 diabetes was not going to hold him back from achieving his fitness goals.
Eight weeks, later 34-year-old Sean has demonstrated exactly what can be achieved at U.P. with determination and consistency after completing an amazing transformation.
Sean lost nearly 9kg, halved his body fat and built a truly impressive physique.

Sean explains how optimising his training and diet, and learning about what’s best for his body, has helped him go from average to exceptional in a few short weeks.
What were your expectations going into the program and what were your motivations?
My expectations of the U.P. program were straightforward: tangible results.
Like many people today, as a busy professional with family commitments, it was critical that the time I invested maximised a visible return on investment, physically and mentally.
As a type 1 diabetic, my motivations were to get healthy for my family and prove that diabetes is simply another challenge to overcome, not a limitation.
How were you feeling both physically and mentally before starting with U.P.?
Physically and mentally I was cruising at average. Nothing negative, but nothing positive either. Having been a gym member for many years, with all the ‘go-to’ routines providing little gains, I felt stagnant and frustrated. I needed to break out of my mould.
What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation with U.P.?
Being a type 1 diabetic, my awareness of nutrition was fairly advanced and my overall lifestyle was healthy. However, only now with hindsight and the expertise provided by my U.P. trainer, Alex, do I truly understand the required lifestyle, discipline and focus needed to meet my goals.
It’s not easy, but the journey is worth it. You get out what you put in. My trainer encouraged me to focus on the key areas of importance and provided me with the ‘how to get there.’
How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started your transformation with U.P.?
For me, it wasn’t a hugely dramatic change in terms of effort to be healthier, but it was a ‘light bulb’ moment to be smarter in my diet approach.
My trainer constantly reflected on the progress and results, being open and honest to keep me focused and prepared.
Over the course of my training, my diet has changed around my diabetes, training and general life events such as holidays. It’s been a fantastic lifestyle education in being proactive vs reactive to deal with everyday life challenges.
How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?
The training provided is a no-nonsense approach that kickstarted my day and prepared me for a busy day at work.
My trainer simplified a complex, bespoke routine to meet my required outcomes. It really was an enjoyable collaborative experience where I worked closely with my trainer, who genuinely cared and empowered me to succeed.
What were the most important things you learned on your transformation?
Dedication and discipline. Work smarter and harder. I learned that I couldn’t achieve this alone with all my family and professional commitments.
There is no doubt that my trainer’s support, counselling and guidance were the key success factors in getting me to make my transformation.
Yes, I got myself there, but my trainer truly gave me the springboard needed to make my transformation.
How has doing this transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward?
Overall, it has been an education and I am only at the start of my journey. I’ve had a taste of success and I want more.
