With no prior experience in the gym, Elyn was nervous about starting weight training. However, after just days she began to look forward to her workouts as the results began to show.

Here, Elyn speaks about how her trainer was able to work around her injuries, which have held her back from training in the past, plus the confidence she has found following her transformation.
What was the moment or wake-up call that was the trigger for wanting to make a change?
It struck me when my health screening result showed my cholesterol level was beyond the healthy range and I was overweight back in 2020.
The doctor advised that I needed to start medication if I were not able to control my overall lifestyle to manage my cholesterol and weight.
Physically, my body weight reached the highest ever (74kg) and I felt so demoralised to see myself not able to fit into all my favourite clothes.
Can you talk about your lifestyle before U.P.? What impact did this have on your life and how did it make you feel?
Before I started my plan with U.P, I never even checked my calories or nutrition at all. I just ate the food which I enjoyed the most without any control, which caused my rapid increase in body weight. My general physical activity in the office is rather sedentary.
I would jog or walk for around 3km or 4km twice a week at the very most. Overall, I felt lethargic most of the time and that would often affect my focus at work and my social life.
What impact has starting weight training had on you, your fitness and your physique?
At first, I was afraid of weight training due to my slipped disc condition in the past. However, with the professional guidance from my personal trainer, he carefully planned the exercises I did according to my condition to strengthen my back muscles, which eased the lower back pain.
He also ensured my posture for each exercise was correct. Since then, I started to enjoy and look forward to the weight training sessions in the gym.
The weight training program combined with the cardio routines and the diet control was vital for me. I started to see consistent weight loss and muscle gain. It has also increased my energy levels and I felt so motivated to carry out the exercise plan.
What are the biggest benefits you experienced from doing the U.P. program?
My U.P plan has led me to adopt a healthier lifestyle and I have definitely enhanced my knowledge on nutrition. I have gained confidence in executing proper form for weight training and I have become consistent with my cardio.
When I’m physically fit and in control of my diet, I always feel refreshed and energised. I’ve also found I have more confidence in my looks and have a lot more self-esteem.
How do you feel physically and mentally now compared to when you started?
It felt great to see my physique change. My energy levels have improved tremendously, and my latest health screening results came back good in all aspects. Mentally I became a lot more confident in myself, and realised that nothing is impossible to overcome if you work hard enough.
