For as long as Tebie can remember, she was always the lucky slim type.
But then lockdown hit and airline industry professional Tebie saw her weight spiral out of control for the first time in her life.
Running wasn’t having the desired effect to get back in shape, so that’s when she decided to put her health in the hands of the experts at Ultimate Performance.
Training with weights just three times a week and having the guidance and support on her diet plan helped her make a remarkable transformation in 13 short weeks.
“I’ve lost more than 12kg (26lbs), and in three months for me that’s big. It’s the discipline that got me there and I wouldn’t be able to do that on my own.
“I love looking at the mirror a lot right now and I’m very happy with the muscle building and also the weight loss.
“Even when I’m with my friends, they notice it, for them, they feel like I look the same, but then they’ll be like ‘Wow your arms are so toned!’ They notice these little things and I’m so satisfied, it feels so great.”
Before her transformation journey, Tebie didn’t know where to begin. All her life she could eat whatever she wanted and keep her shape.
But with the forced inactivity of lockdown, her weight crept up until she decided enough was enough.
“I’ve always been slim all my life and putting on weight was something I looked forward to when I was a kid. I never had any boundaries on how much I could eat.
“Last year in April, I was checking my weight and I was at 70kg (154lbs) and was like ‘Where did that come from?’ I did notice that my clothes are getting more fit, but I never considered myself overweight at any point.
“It was COVID, there were a lot of restrictions around activities and I realized that I needed to do something about it so I started running but couldn’t see an improvement. That’s when I said I need help.”
After joining U.P., Tebbie realised what was missing at other gyms – the right techniques, personal touch, close monitoring by a professional trainer, and a holistic plan designed around her goals.
It proved to be the game-changer that she needed, both inside and outside the gym.
“From the beginning, they were open to asking questions and that was something I noticed with my training — my questions can be repetitive and there was a lot of patience in being able to answer that question in different ways.
“My personal experience with going to the gym and with personal trainers in the past has always been so intense that I can’t sit, can’t move literally for a week or so, and then I start again.
“I could see the improvement in terms of the reps were increasing but I was able to very smoothly and do three sessions every week for three months.
“There was that comfort; also listening to my body and to what I was worried about — I have an issue with my knees, at what are the different things that work for me rather than forcing me to do something uncomfortable.”
After losing 12kg (26lbs) in three short months, Tebie felt physically and mentally stronger and healthier again while training here at U.P.
People around her were noticing the difference and her friends were eager to know how she had done it. Tebie credits the attention to detail of her program and the guidance in learning the skills she needs to maintain her results for good.
“I’ve never done such a long program with previous trainers.
“For me, it was that personal touch. It’s not just the one hour and here are the sessions and let’s go through it. It was much more than that.
“It was not just going through the sessions by rote – but it was about understanding the logic behind why I am doing what I am doing. That was a big difference.”
At U.P., Tebie discovered the right way to getting fit which helped her become more active and energetic in other aspects of her life.
It is a system and a formula at U.P. which Tebie believes is actually simply for anyone to follow.
“Work was crazy and there were stressful times with Covid and everything that was going on.
“But the structure was just so simple – it was like ‘do these five things every day and no matter what is going on, just tick these boxes’.
“I could see how I could translate that into other parts of my life. The fact that I’m fit just mentally helps me and makes me feel good in my skin and that makes me less stressed at work. So definitely it’s made that difference in other aspects of my life.”
The whole experience has been hugely positive for Tebie in doing whatever it takes to get her the best results possible during her program.
“I have been marketing U.P. non-stop at my gym and keep talking about you guys. It’s been amazing because it’s that end-to-end care and even if I’m asking questions which maybe you don’t need to be addressing, what I love is you go back, check on it, and have a discussion around it or at least make that attempt to go beyond what the package is about.”
